The Nottingham Jazz Orchestra presents:

JEFF HOOPER - International Big Band Singer

The Nottingham Jazz Orchestra will be joined by seasoned big band singer Jeff Hooper. Jeff Hooper is one of the most talented and best-liked singers on the European music-scene. He is an internationally known cabaret artist. Jeff developed his talent as a singer with the famous Syd Lawrence Orchestra.

Early in his career Jeff worked with Matt Monro (who taught him how to tie a bow tie!), Morecambe and Wise, and Stephane Grapelli. He sang with Dame Shirley Bassey and Sir Tom Jones at the opening of the National Assembly of Wales. He is a great favourite on the BBC RADIO 2 show and Friday Night is Music Night. Jeff is a friend of the great lyricist Hal David of Bacharach and David fame, and has performed new songs by him at David’s request.

He has also featured in major marketing drives for Skoda, Jeep and VW Motors, all featuring John Cacavas songs with Hal David lyrics.

Jeff likes to give really well presented shows with entertaining dialogue, and combined with his magnificent singing this has made him a popular figure on the music scene. Not just lists of songs, but fully developed shows.

His work is prolific, with overseas concert tours, weekly radio shows, luxury cruises and regular performances across Britain and beyond in some of the world's top jazz clubs, concert halls and cabaret spots. Jeff and his Swing Easy band was selected to be the Strictly Come Dancing Tour Band.

As well as running his own powerhouse big band, Jeff is a regular guest with the BBC Big Band, and appears monthly at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London.

Truly a night of great music, and entertainment not to be missed!

“Jeff Hooper is one of my favourite singers. His rendition of 'Windows of the World' on his album A Passing Glance is new, fresh, and wonderful.” Hal David. (Bacharach & David) “I was totally blown away with this CD. An intelligent and challenging choice of songs, played by the cream of the UK jazz scene. I especially loved the original lyrics written by Jeff, who sings with depth and passion throughout. His vocal range is stunning, and he swings too! A real treat." Claire Martin. The Nottingham Jazz Orchestra presents:

BUDDY & STAN
- CLASSICS FROM BUDDY RICH & STAN KENTON AMONGST OTHERS!

The Nottingham Jazz Orchestra will be playing a selection of tunes from two of the greatest big band leaders that ever lived.

Bernard "Buddy" Rich (September 30, 1917 – April 2, 1987) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader. Widely considered one of the most influential drummers of all time and known for his virtuoso technique, power, and speed, Rich was billed as "the world's greatest drummer" during his career. He performed with many bandleaders, most notably Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, Count Basie, and led his own big band.

Rich's technique, including speed, smooth execution and precision, is one of the most coveted in drumming and has become a common standard. Gene Krupa defined him as "the greatest drummer ever to have drawn breath".

Stanley Newcomb Kenton (December 15, 1911 – August 25, 1979) was an American popular music and jazz artist. As a pianist, composer, arranger and band leader, he led an innovative and influential jazz orchestra (1940s through '70s) garnering many successes across several music genres. Though Kenton was to have several pop hits from the early 1940s into the 1960s, much like earlier band leader Paul Whiteman, he categorized his music as forward looking. In Kenton's own words, it was "progressive jazz". He was also on the cutting edge of jazz education in creating the Stan Kenton Band Clinics starting in the late 1950s.
